About
After completing my BA Hons in Ceramics in 1992, I became a self-employed Ceramic Artist for ten years, selling to over 70 shops and galleries nationwide. After having children, I gained my PGCE and spent the following 20 years teaching Art in Secondary Schools in Somerset.
In September 2023, I continued in education, but this time as a student back at UWE Bower Ashton, which was a complete joy. Having time and the resources to refine my skills and define my practice was a rejuvenating and transformative experience.
During my MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking, I explored my interest in nostalgia through collections of domestic objects and artefacts within the genre of still life. The objects we surround ourselves with, along with the stories they carry from our personal histories and family legacies, transform these still-lifes into a form of portraiture. As a mother and a product of the 1970s, I am particularly drawn to the narratives these objects reveal about domesticity, motherhood, and the passage of time.
Through my multi-block Lino and screen-prints, I examine how an object can represent a person and how the shadows it cast might serve as metaphors for their life experiences and memories. Through this contrast of light, shade, and form, I strive to capture not only the physical presence of these objects but also the deeper emotional and historical connections they symbolize.
